Surfaced lumber isn’t the same as its nominal (advertised) size. I know it can be irritating. Every time you take measurements, you have to account for this. If you do carpentry for a living then it becomes second nature. But if you are a weekend warrior, you have to stop and think about this during the planning stage.

Drilling ceramic tile requires a carbide or diamond drill bit. Both are perfect for the task. You can find these at most home improvement and tool stores and the price is reasonable.
Ceramic tile is very hard and breaks easily if not supported. If you drill too fast, the heat buildup will crack the tile. In order to prevent cracks and discoloration, use a variable speed drill and new drill bits. Don’t apply much pressure, just let the drill do the work. Use a very slow speed in the 100 - 200 RPM range. Don’t use any type of hammer drill on tile because that will shatter it like glass.

Building an outdoor dog kennel, also called a dog run, is a great way to allow your pets outdoors without having to constantly monitor them. If built large enough, they can get a good deal of exercise. Before you begin, there are several things you must research.
First, is the kennel allowed by local building codes. If yes, is there a size restriction, and how high can the enclosing fence be? Some building codes either won’t allow a dog run to be built or have strict size limits. Even if the building code permits it, your neighborhood homeowner’s association (if there is one) might restrict dog runs. Be sure to check with everyone first before drawing up plans.

Pavers are great for building patios and sidewalks. They are not very difficult to install and add a nice, finished touch to your home. Pavers last for many years as long as they are installed properly using the correct mortar.
Generally speaking, brick pavers are more robust and wear better than concrete types. With concrete, the color pigment eventually dulls and wears off the top surface. This causes them to look old and faded. Brick does not have this problem because they are the same color all the way through.

Nail guns, also called nailers, are great labor saving tools. You can set a lot of nails in a hurry with these. But you have to be careful because you could injure yourself or someone else. Nail guns can generate quite a bit of force. Nails could become missiles if the gun is not handled properly. You have to use them safely and with a good dose of common sense.

Hanging new wallpaper can transform your rooms into a brand new environment. Wallpaper comes in a huge selection of colors, textures, and sizes. The options seem endless. You can completely change the character of your living space with a few hours work.
To get started, you need a tape measure, four foot level, four inch putty knife, paint roller and pan, two inch paint brush, step ladder, razor knife, smoothing brush, and a large table or flat working surface. The surfaces to be papered must be smooth and free of all debris and high/low spots. Any defects on the walls will be magnified by the wallpaper, so take your time and make sure all problems have been corrected.

It takes a certain level of skill to grout tile. Grout can be ruined if mixed with too much water, and will be extremely difficult to apply and smooth if too thick. If you are not familiar with grout application, practice on a set of old tiles before starting your project.

Home security systems offer protection for your family as well as property. They can monitor entry points including doors, windows, and areas such as attached garages. Wireless systems are much easier to install in areas that would be difficult if not impossible to wire. You can purchase a do-it-yourself system or go with a professional service that also provides 24/7 monitoring.
